Land Conveyance, Town of Newton, MA

Original conveyances giving the 300 acres of land on the south side of the Charles River from Cambridge/Watertown to the settlers named in the documents as a group to what was once called Newtown. Until then that territory was not available to incorporate or legally name, protect and defend. It also gave them rights over the indigenous people living there. It seems that Cambridge had rights to it and perhaps the British gave Cambridge a land grant that became Middlesex county. Many grants were given tthis way during this time period. Once the land is granted, it’s the grantee’s to do with at their convenience.
